Our favourite websites back in the 90s compared to now...
Website design has change a lot since the internet became mainstream back in the 90s. With only a small amount of web fonts and layouts available designers were very limited with what they could do. Now with faster internet connections web pages can display many high resolution images on one page without the visitor having to wait a lifetime for each to slowly reveal themselves.
With the introduction of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) designers now have more control over the layout and styling of each webpage and put together with tools like Google Fonts and Font Awesome they have even more choice creating an internet that looks and feels like any printed magazine.
We find it fun to compare how popular websites look now and back then and thanks to the magic of Way Back Machine we have put together some of our favourites. Move your mouse over each image to see and then and now of each site we’ve chosen.
And what’s the point in looking back at websites from the past? Well, it teaches us a lot. It reminds us from where and how far we have come. And it drives us to keep changing.
You may have spent time, money and passion in creating your first ever website but like anything these days it rarely lasts forever. Ensuring your customers see you as current, fresh thinking and moving with the times is important. As much as we love ‘vintage’, no-one honestly comes across an old school website these days and thinks ‘I should work with this company’.
